Child Sex Trafficking in Atlanta

Child sex trafficking is an issue all around the world, including the U.S. The most disturbing of our many global atrocities to me.  I remember Oprah did an episode on it and my heart ached while tears shed the whole time. Her focus on the issue was in 3rd world countries such as Thailand, China and India.  Human trafficking is the fastest growing international crime.  I was reading a recent article on child sex trafficking and was surprised to learn that Atlanta, GA is considered of the biggest hubs for under age sex trafficking in the U.S. Teen Identity, a girls' empowerment grouped based in Atlanta, GA, released a PSA video this week that chillingly connects the victims of sex trafficking with their stats. Pray for them, us and the rest of the world.

Save the Children..

Support The D.C Healthy Schools Act!!

As we all already know, obesity is a serious problem in the United States.  Sadly enough, our society enables and basically promotes obesity with our fast-food, microwavable, high calorie yet convenient foods. We can get deep and speak on the conspiracy of how expensive "organic" and fresh foods are in comparison to the generic/basic more affordable foods at the grocery stores but that's not the focus of this post.

This generation of children are the first that are expected to die before their parents due to obesity and the complications caused by it. 43% of D.C. public school students are overweight or obese.   In an attempt to save the children, "Earth Day Network" has created The D.C Healthy Schools Act.  It is " a landmark bill that will substantially raise the nutritional standards of school meals, bring fresh, local fruits and vegetables to schools, triple the amount of physical and health education, and create a school gardens program. A penny-per-ounce tax on soda and sugar-sweetened beverages is proposed to fund the D.C. Healthy Schools Act — and provide additional money for local health programs, such as eliminating the District’s “grocery gap.”

So PLEASE Sign the petition to fund healthy and nutritious school meals, more physical activity for students, and expanded health and wellness programs for children.

Boondocks Season 3 Episode 1

So for those who did not catch it Sunday night, here you go. I didn't get to watch it till last night myself and I was definitely not expecting what I saw or heard (but when has the Boondocks ever been predictable).  I must admit I did make a couple whaaat faces at Huey, especially after comments such as "Hope is irrational." Hueys indifference to Obama getting elected did put me in a somber mood and rubbed me the wrong way BUT, I know it isn't derived from ignorance sooo I can respect it.

We All Need A Hug Sometimes

So, one weekend, I decided to return home to the DMV, for those of yall that don't know, its D.C./Maryland/Virginia. I was sitting there having a chat with my dad, ya know the usual stuff. He was so eager to tell me ..."Obama's wife hugged a Somali woman!".  My reaction: "Get outta here!"  Talk about shocking! So I went and googled around for the image.  I mean, considering all the hooplah around Somali's & the so called links to terrorism, do you ever think Bush would've embraced a Somali?

And then, there it was....First Lady Michelle Obama embraces Khadija Musame during her visit to the New Roots Community Farm in San Diego, CA. Who would've thought? The First Lady embracing a foreigner. Then, thoughts pour in, aside from the extroverted Obama's, when's the last time you've seen any president of any nation embrace another so genuinely? Just food for thought......

Obama in the stilll

Anyone that knows me, knows how I feel about our President. I wanna be his Monica Lewinsky-I see his sexy ass in my dreams fairly often- LMAO let me stop (no disrespect First Lady! I luh you too). Seriously though, I admire his ambition, I agree with his vision, and I believe (maybe naively) that he is doing what is best for the greater good with all my heart.  I worked with the Young Democrats of America doing some ridiculous shit just to ensure VA gave their vote to him-and it was worth it, considering we finally went blue for him. But here are some images from his 1st year that I found on NBC's site. All Pictures courtesy of the Official White House photographer Pete Souza! Awesome job-i'm sure!

Enjoy!!

Jan. 20, 2009: Right before President-Elect Barack Obama walked out to take the oath of office, he took one last glance in a mirror at the U.S. Capitol.

Jan. 20, 2009: The photo says: "We were on a freight elevator headed to one of the inaugural balls. It was quite chilly, so the president removed his tuxedo jacket and put it over the shoulders of his wife. Then they had a semi-private moment as staff member and Secret Service agents tried not to look."
Oct. 8, 2009: Obama jockeyed for a rebound with congressmen during a basketball game at the White House. Says the photog: "I think opponents are always surprised at how tough and competitive he can be."
Dec. 9, 2009: Says the photog: "The day we were leaving for Oslo, the president's first meeting of the morning was with his speechwriting team. He said he had stayed up most of the night writing. I was surprised to see that he had handwritten the entire speech so I made a few close-up pictures as he went over the speech with his aides in the Oval Office."
Feb. 17, 2009: The president had just signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in Denver, before boarding Air Force One.

Nov. 14, 2009 “We were on Air Force One heading to the Summit of the Americas in Singapore. Since the 1990’s, the host country for this Summit chooses a shirt that all heads of state wear to the formal ceremony. White House press secretary Robert Gibbs was showing the President pictures of past leaders wearing—shall we say—not the most dignified of shirts. At the Summit, the President joked that he looked forward to hosting the 2011 Summit in Hawaii, where everyone would have to wear Hawaii shirts and grass skirts.” (GEEKING lmao)
Dec. 1, 2009 “He and the Vice President were headed for the short walk from the White House to the Eisenhower Executive Office building to brief Congressional leaders on his new Afghanistan strategy that he would publicly unveil at West Point that night. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had just pulled up in her motorcade and the Vice President congratulated her that her daughter, Chelsea, had just gotten engaged.”  (Our Dream Team!)

Cool, Calm, Composed! "Know how to move in a room full of vultures" Yeah-He's the man! (and they're not vultures-they're on his team or at least claim to be)
